First of all Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
Football over the years has had it ways of keeping me away from my family but we’ve always managed to make it work. I’ve spent Christmas nights in hotels, hours away from home which is tough, but I can’t complain, playing at christmas is pretty awesome. The fixtures couldn’t have worked out any better for us this Christmas, as I was able to have my family stay and attend both games. The fact that we won them both too, made Christmas just that bit more special.
The year couldn’t have ended much better, for me 2015 had everything. It had its frustrations to start with, not playing as much as I would have liked to, topped with a disappointing result for us at the U21 European Championships in the summer. However there were plenty of positives too. Starting with getting into the team towards the end of the season and being able to put a marker down and show the fans, and particularly the manager, that i was ready to step up. Fortunately, the manager thought I had done enough and handed me the number one shirt during the summer, which was a massive boost for me and an honour to wear the #1 shirt for a club with such great goalkeeping history.
Pre season was over in no time and before i knew it we are now half way through the season. The first half of the season couldn’t have gone much better. Although we had a slow start we are now in a great position, summed up by some great wins and performances against some of the top teams in the league.
On a personal note, some of my highlights have been away performances at Norwich and Newcastle and brilliant home wins against Manchester City and Manchester United. The best highlights though, were an incredible home win v Chelsea in the Cup on penalties and making my first team competitive start for England in a qualifier v Lithuania.
The year has finished well for us, but I’m hoping 2016 brings lots more for me and the club. I’d like to thank you all for your support in 2015 and wish you all the best for the coming year.
